Their Highnesses the Royal Princesses

His Majesty the 4th King Jigme Singye Wangchuck married 4 sisters: Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangmo Wangchuck, Ashi Tshering Pem Wangchuck, Ashi Tshering Yangdon Wangchuck and Ashi Sangay Choden Wangchuck at Punakha Dzong in 1988. The queens were daughters of Dasho Yab Ugyen Dorji and Yum Thuiji Zam.

His Majesty the Fourth, in fact, married 4 queens nine years ago in 1979 in a private ceremony, in keeping with the desire to avoid publicity. 4 queens gave birth to 5 princes and 5 princesses.

1. Her Royal Highness Princess Ashi Chimi Yangzom Wangchuck

Ashi Chimi Yangzom Wangchuck

Princess Ashi Chimi Yangzom Wangchuck was born on 10 January 1980 to Queen Mother Ashi Tshering Pem Wangchuck. Her Royal Highness studied a Bachelor’s Degree with double Majors in International Relations and Economics from Wellesley College in Massachusetts and Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Columbia University in New York.

HRH married Dasho Sangay Wangchuck in 2005 and they have two sons: Dasho Jigme Ugyen Wangchuck (born 2006) and Dasho Jamyang Singye Wangchuck (born 2009).

Her Royal Highness is the Vice President of the Bhutan Youth Development Foundation and the Royal Patron to Bhutan Ecological Society (BES).

2. Her Royal Highness Princess Ashi Sonam Dechen Wangchuck

Princess Ashi Sonam Dechen Wangchuck was born to Queen Mother Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck in 1981. HRH has a Degree in International Relations from Stanford University and Masters in Law from Harvard Law School.

Her Royal Highness has clerked for the Royal High Court of Bhutan. Today, she is the President of the Bhutan National Legal Institute and Board Member of the Tarayana Foundation.

3. Her Royal Highness Princess Ashi Dechen Yangzom Wangchuck

Ashi Dechen Yangzom Wangchuck

Her Royal Highness Princess Ashi Dechen Yangzom Wangchuck of Bhutan was born 2 December 1981 to Queen Mother Ashi Tshering Yangdon.

HRH has been based in Mongar since 2006 as His Majesty’s Representatives for people’s welfare. HRH has travelled across the country in order to ensure the effective delivery of kidu to the most deserving sections of society.

HRH married Dasho Tandin Namgyel in 2014.

4. Her Royal Highness Princess Ashi Kesang Choden Wangchuck

Ashi Kesang Choden Wangchuck

Her Royal Highness Princess Ashi Kesang Choden Wangchuck was born on 23 January 1982 to Queen Mother Ashi Tshering Pem Wangchuck.

Her Royal Highness studied Psychology from Stanford University. HRH married Dasho Palden Yoser Thinley in 2008.

Today, HRH is the His Majesty’s Representative based in Bumthang. HRH looks after the people’s welfare of the central and southern Bhutan and undertakes regular visits to remote villages in order to interact with the youth and rural communities on behalf of His Majesty.

5. Her Royal Highness Princess Ashi Euphelma Choden Wangchuck

Ashi Euphelma Choden Wangchuck

Her Royal Highness Princess Ashi Euphelma Choden Wangchuck was born on June 6, 1993 to Queen Mother Ashi Sangay Choden Wangchuck. RH Ashi Euphelma Choden Wangchuck studied at the Georgetown University in the United States.

Today, HRH is the president of the Bhutan Paralympic Committee, national sports body for disabled athletes in Bhutan.

  1. I stand to be corrected. I believe that the director of the Thankha conservation center is Ashi Kesang Choden who is the daughter of HRH Ashi Pem Pem Wangchuck and not HRH princess Ashi Kesang Choeden. Maybe I need to be updated if any leadership changes happened in the center
